Suite of the Moon

Before embarking on your exploration, you can visit the Suite of the Moon panel and choose from a variety of “Omen” modifiers. These modifiers add challenges to your gameplay, with each one increasing the current “Indulgence” value. The “Indulgence” value serves as an indicator for the difficulty level of your playthrough. Depending on this value, you may see changes in the appearance of the moon, with each moon phase representing a different difficulty bracket that adds even more dangerous effects to your playthrough.

Phases of the Moon

There are five difficulty brackets, or phases of the moon, determined by the current Indulgence value:
Misperception
  • Low chance of increasing Stress at the start of the round. Very low chance of triggering Sudden Disaster.
  • Clear Vision.
  • Shard of Shadow gain +20%.
Illusory Sounds
  • Low chance of increasing Stress at the start of the round.
  • Low chance of triggering Sudden Disaster.
  • Limited Vision.
  • Shard of Shadow gain +20%.
  • Enemy Control Resilience +20%.
Illusory Sight
  • Moderate chance of increasing Stress at the start of the round.
  • Moderate chance of triggering Sudden Disaster.
  • Reduced Vision.
  • Shard of Shadow gain +50%.
  • Enemy Control Resilience +30%.
Illusory Touch
  • High chance of increasing Stress at the start of the round.
  • High chance of triggering Sudden Disaster.
  • Majorly obstructed Vision.
  • Shard of Shadow gain +100%.
  • Enemy Control Resilience +50%.
Delirium
  • High chance of significantly increasing Stress at the start of the round.
  • Guaranteed to trigger Sudden Disaster.
  • Severely obstructed Vision.
  • Shard of Shadow gain +200%.
  • Enemy Control Resistance +100%.
  • Deployed characters get a decrease in Focus Chance.
After completing an exploration, you will receive Shards of Shadow. These shards can be used to unlock new Catalyst incantations, Instinct buffs, or reset the cooldowns of certain Instinct buffs. If the Indulgence value is at 0, the Suite of the Moon will become inactive and no effects from Indulgence will impact you. You will also no longer be able to obtain Shards of Shadow.
As the difficulty bracket of the Suite of the Moon increases, you’ll be able to activate “Instinct” effects. By tapping on the broken mirror shards surrounding the image of the moon, a variety of Instincts can be chosen. The higher the difficulty bracket, the more Instincts can be activated, and the stronger their effects will be.

After activating Instincts and clearing the second area, some of the Instincts will go into cooldown. Each time you clear the second area, or each area after that, these cooldowns are reduced by one round. Alternatively, you can use Shards of Shadow to instantly refresh the cooldowns.

Stress in battle

After loading up the expansion, your characters will display a Stress meter while exploring. Actions taken during exploration will affect their Stress levels, which in turn will affect their behavior on the battlefield.
Enemies also have Stress levels. The higher an enemy’s stress, the more dangerous they become.

Changes in stress

  • When an enemy leaves the battlefield, get Stress 5 for self.
  • When defeating an enemy, get Stress -10 for self.
  • When another ally dies, get Stress +25 for self.

Vigilance and Disorder

  • When at low Stress, chance to trigger Vigilance Behaviors associated with the unit’s Afflatus.
  • When at low Stress, chance to trigger Disorder Behaviors associated with the unit’s Afflatus.

Focus and Meltdown

  • When Stress reaches 50, trigger the unit’s Focus Behaviors or Meltdown Behaviors.
